One of the latest hotels to join Madrid’s forward-thinking hotel set is the 4-star Vicci The Mint. Breaking away from the usual hotel formula the property combines a modern fresh design, with healthy food and a rooftop terrace. Completely on trend and in keeping with the city’s lively youth vibe.
Location
Located directly on the Gran Via, Madrid’s main boulevard that snakes through the city centre. The hotel is seconds from the main shopping district and is awash with bars and restaurants. A gentle ten-minute walk from the hotel you are at Retiro Park and the Prado Museum and the jumping district of Chueca is directly behind the hotel.
Style
Designed by Jaime Beriestain, the hotel occupies a landmark building on the Gran Via which was constructed in the early 1900’s. The hotel’s interiors are finished in bold greens and turquoises, which are a node to the hotel’s original styling
On entering the hotel through the mint green hallway into the lobby the space is fresh and fun and a taste of things to come. There is no separate reception and bar instead the mixed-use space gets you straight into the action from the moment you set down your bag so why not order a cocktail while you check-in.
The lounge area off the lobby is decorated with a rainbow of bright and funky fabrics and furnishings in direct contrast to the muted greens.
Rooms
There are 88 rooms and suites, which are spacious and light, with wooden herringbone flooring and teal-coloured walls. Our room was not front facing so had a view out into the central column courtyard, which was absolutely perfect in the evening as it was silent but if you want a room with a view and less claustrophobic request a front or back facing room.
The bathroom was fresh and clean, with a large walk-in shower and brass fitting and fixtures, amenities by Vincci.
The room has a kettle offering basic coffee and tea facilities.
Food and Drink
The lounge serves food and drinks all day. Breakfast is to order so no buffet, but you can keep on ordering if you are feeling hungry.
The fun really kicks off on the hotel’s roof terrace which has views over the Gran Via and snacks can be bought in the American-style food truck.
Final Thoughts and Finances
Fun and fresh are the name of the game here, the mint green colour theme is striking but does work. The hotel is in a prime location for a city break and offers good value for money.
