Andalucia is blessed with Europe’s best climate – and that means more sunshine and warmth than anywhere else on the continent. So little wonder that beach clubs are a thing here, all along the coast. Yet some Beach Clubs are more equal than others; especially the Spiler Beach Club, writes Andrew Forbes.

All New Beach Club
The beach club has recently undergone a super stylish make-over than has extended to the kitchen and bar, with a new menu and cocktail list.
The Spiler Beach Club is open to the public. So even if you are not a guest at the Kempinski Hotel Bahia, you can still experience the costa in style.
Recently I was invited to for the day, to enjoy lunch and the facilities.
Firstly, I can say that I was genuinely impressed by the food at the Spiler Beach Club restaurant, by Chef David Fernández. When dishes hit the mark, then eating out like this is good value. The quality of the menu is so strong that in my mind it’s a good enough reason to visit even before you consider the Balinese style day beds, the Mediterranean sea view, the pools set amongst landscaped gardens, and the luxe spa!
Secondly, the menu not only includes family favourites like artisan pizzas; but also gourmet seafood like oysters & lobsters: as well as classic Mediterranean cuisine freshly prepared, including using josper grill which really adds a superb layer of flavour.
Gourmet Alfresco Dining
Our lunch was a delight. We started with raw clams, ‘conchas finas’ which are a real delicacy here in Malaga – superb with lime and mint, on a bed of ice.
The crab kimuchi with Japanese mayo is a favourite – served in a fresh lime. Tastes superb every time.
The marinated scallops with corn cream and popcorn were spectacular – so original and the clams were prepared perfectly.
Squid croquettes were accompanied with grilled octopus which looked to be served with charcoal from the Josper grill – but it’s in fact faux, actually yucca that is blackened. Clever idea.
The local bluefin tuna was superbly prepared, as was the rib eye from the grill.
One can simply some to Spiler to eat at the restaurant (no fee to visit) or alternatively spend the whole day at the Beach Club for day rate.
Day at the Beach
To spend the day at the club is 50-euro pp (low season ) and 95-euro pp (high season). This price includes a sunbed in the exclusive adults only zone; a food & beverage credit of 50 € in the Spiler restaurant; a towel, and Wi-Fi, as well as access to the Spa (with indoor pool), Gym, and outdoor pools. There’s even free valet parking, in the hotel’s secure underground lot.
