Maison Martell Unveils Signature Martell par Alexandre Mazzia: A Culinary Journey in the Heart of Cognac.

The oldest of the great cognac houses, Maison Martell, marks a milestone moment as Château de Chanteloup, the family’s historic home opens to the public this July (2024) to celebrate the launch of Signature Martell par Alexandre Mazzia.

This truly exceptional dining experience is the result of a collaboration between Martell Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud and three-Michelin-starred Chef Alexandre Mazzia to celebrate cognac and gastronomy. This unique culinary journey is exclusively available to a maximum of six guests and has been designed to encourage relaxed interactions between guests and Alexandre Mazzia’s Executive chef. The modular table open to the kitchen and the décor of the space, reflecting the history of the Château and the Cognac region, further enhances the individuality of this intimate experience.

Unique, Historic and Truly Memorable

Synonymous with serenity and refinement, the Château de Chanteloup, set in the heart of the Borderies, was once the Martell family home and the signature terroir of Martell. In the 1930s Maurice Firino-Martell transformed the Château into a Deauville-style manor for the love of his wife Elisabeth, and the debut of Signature Martell par Alexandre Mazzia is a modern-day example of the generous spirit of the House.

Signature Martell par Alexandre Mazzia represents the pinnacle of a bold partnership between Christophe Valtaud and Chef Alexandre Mazzia, united by a mutual spirit of daring, generosity, and expertise. Months of collaborative innovation have yielded an unparalleled dining experience, featuring a bespoke menu crafted to harmonise flawlessly with the refined blends curated by Christophe Valtaud. Set in an enchanting space that embodies the essence of Cognac’s terroir, every aspect of this experience is designed to captivate and delight discerning guests.

Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud has crafted special blends from the House’s extensive reserve of eaux-de-vie – a remarkable heritage of 11,000 references – showcasing exceptional savoir-faire and excellence and are a celebration of Cognac. These blends perfectly compliment the toasted, spicy, smoky, and chili flavours evident in the Signature Martell menu created by Chef Alexandre Mazzia which has been carefully designed to reveal the richness of the cognacs’ nuances. Each sequence of the meal subtly reveals the aromatic specificities of the blends and of the terroir itself.

This exceptional gastro experience will begin at the bar of the Château de Chanteloup, where guests are welcomed with a signature cognac cocktail created by Christophe Valtaud and Martell Master Mixologist Rémy Savage. It concludes in the library, where guests can savour a final cognac and discover Maison Martell’s most exclusive editions, which are also available for purchase at the Château.

Rare vintages from the Martell reserves have also been selected by Christophe Valtaud, and for the first time, are on offer during the meal, à la carte, for guests who wish to personalise or further enhance their tasting experience.

Unconventional and Creative Collaborations

Alexandre Mazzia’s unconventional path has traversed from basketball in the Republic of Congo to gastronomy in Marseille, and now to the heart of Cognac. At Château de Chanteloup, Mazzia collaborates closely with Executive Chef Michele Donvito, both deeply committed to honouring nature through sustainable practices and sourcing premium ingredients from local suppliers. The menu of Signature Martell showcases seafood, a nod to Mazzia’s personal heritage and abundant local offerings. Donvito, having honed his skills under Mazzia at Marseille’s three-starred restaurant, adeptly translates Mazzia’s culinary philosophy into reality at this prestigious venue.

Spanish designer and creative director Jorge Penadés, was commissioned by The House to create the furniture and the cognathèque which dramatizes the presentation of the precious blends served at this exclusive experience.

Tailored Maison Martell Experiences

Signature Martell par Alexandre Mazzia is the most exciting new addition to Martell cognac-oriented experiences, offering three distinct journeys.

  • Option 1: Signature Martell par Alexandre Mazzia – is centred around a leisurely lunch or dinner, and features the signature experience pairing of Martell cognacs with Chef Mazzia’s menu.
  • Option 2: Au Coeur de Martell – invites guests to the very heart of the Maison, including the Signature experience as well as a private visit and tasting in the historic cellar.
  • Option 3: Grand Voyage Martell –  this adds a private blending session to complete the full programme featuring the Signature cognac-and-cuisine pairing as well as the cellar visit and tasting.

For cognac connoisseurs and cultural omnivores alike, guided visits of the Maison Martell historic estate and recently refurbished three-hundred-year-old cellar are available and the House’s bar and rooftop, Indigo by Martell, offers an exceptional panoramic view over the city of Cognac.
