Johnnie Walker, the world’s leading Scotch Whisky brand, has unveiled a breathtaking new limited-edition design for its Blue Label, crafted in collaboration with renowned visual artist James Jean. This vibrant creation honours the Lunar New Year 2025’s Zodiac animal, the snake, with a contemporary interpretation that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation.
The Artist Behind the Design
James Jean, a globally celebrated Asian-American artist, is known for his ability to merge classical art styles with modern aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese scroll paintings, Japanese woodblock prints, and Renaissance portraiture, Jean’s art embodies a profound sense of transformation and growth—concepts central to the spirit of the Year of the Snake.
His design for Johnnie Walker Blue Label features three snakes representing wisdom, intelligence, and intuition. The snakes shed their skins, symbolising renewal and progression, while blooming flowers add an air of vitality and hope. This is Jean’s second collaboration with Johnnie Walker, following the success of his 2024 Lunar New Year design for the Year of the Dragon.

The design is deeply connected to Johnnie Walker’s ethos of constant evolution. Jean’s artwork reflects the whisky’s transformative journey, crafted from some of the rarest Scotch whiskies in Johnnie Walker’s reserves. The brand’s Master Blender, Emma Walker, carefully selects irreplaceable casks from now-closed ‘ghost’ distilleries to create an unparalleled depth of flavour in Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
