Made in the secluded Vuitton fragrance house in Grasse, Étoile Filante is the accomplishment of Louis Vuitton’s in-house perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, and has been inspired by the ingredients and scents discovered by Belletrud on his extensive travels.
Osmanthus, is the keynote to the new fragrance and has sentimental value too; Belletrud first encountered the delicate white flower in the Grasse laboratory of his own father who was also a perfumer. Years later, whilst in China, Belletrud came across the fruity-smelling flower once more. ‘At nightfall, all around the stalls in the flower market, this original, suave scent of osmanthus and magnolia would waft through the air,’ says Belletrud. He was deeply moved by that magic, heady fragrance so a pairing of those two elements from nature seemed to be self-evident to the perfumer.
Like most fragrances in the Vuitton catalogue, Étoile Filante, achieves the recognisability factor that most scents strive for and its distinctive profile makes it easy for its wearer to adopt it as a signature scent. Bright and delicate the fragrance is original yet subtle enough to appeal to almost any scent palette.
Subtle fruity elements of the osmanthus and magnolia blend are heightened by notes of apricot and cassis and the keynotes’ floral character is accentuated by a touch of Grasse jasmine obtained using Vuitton’s unique CO2 extraction technique.

Étoile Filante, boasts a slightly sweet and almost powdery scent which could be deemed as old-fashioned. However, given the experience of Belletrud, the candied floral character of Étoile Filante is made fresh and distinctly modern to make it a welcomed addition to the house’s collection.
