As we begin to reach for our cosy winter knits, our thoughts turn to seasonal imbibements. And it was while snowed in at home, that Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation began imagining a tipple that would epitomise the cosiness of wrapping up warm, while the world outside is white.
Sweet and fruity
This new limited edition bottle A Tale of Winter contains wintry aromas and flurries of bright, vivid flavour to enliven shorter days. Mellowed in bourbon casks and finished in Sicilian Marsala wine casks, the 13-year-old single malt Scotch whisky pops with notes of fruit, honey, cocoa dust and spice for a rich, yet bright taste. Non-chill-filtered and bottled at 46% ABV, A Tale of Winter’s new flavours have inspired a range of serves and cocktails that are easy to make at home. These include a Winter Old Fashioned, Quinta Ruban Hot Chocolate, and a Pumpkin Scotch Latte.
A quest to dream up delicious new whiskies
It’s the brainchild of the brand’s Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden, who is on a mission to bring new possibilities to the world of single malt. Some years ago, he pulled on his most colourful sweater at home in Scotland after a magical heavy snowfall and began to wonder – what if he could capture these gloriously cosy moments by the fireside?

Dr Bill said: “We all know the delight of snuggling up in a winter jumper by the fire when it’s snowy outside. With flavours as bright and vivid as my favourite woollen sweater, Glenmorangie A Tale of Winter deliciously captures those magical, cosy moments. The experience begins with light flurries of fruit and honey, building to torrents of cocoa dust, flakes of red pepper and chunks of Brazil-nut toffee. It culminates in a feels-like-forever finish that swirls with cinnamon, ginger and clove.”
Enfolding the senses, the liquor provides notes of oxidised and caramelised fruits, honey, Brazil-nut toffee, barley malt, cocoa powder, red pepper, cinnamon, ginger, clove and hints of sandalwood.
