Cavalta Boutique Hotel Triana – Stylish New 5-star Gl In Seville’s Creative Quarter

Seville, the Andalusian capital, is the quintissential Spanish destination, celebrated for its vibrate culture, cuisine, architecture, and history. Now there’s a new stylish bolthole in the city, Cavalta Boutique Hotel, found in the on-trend, authentic neighbourhood of Triana, on the west bank of Seville’s mighty Guadalquivir river.

The Luxury Editor has its finger on the pulse when it comes to new hotels and we headed to Seville to get the lowdown on the city’s newest gem, Cavalta Boutique Hotel, writes Andrew Forbes.

Cavalta Boutique Hotel is an intimate 12-room hotel. It is Triana’s first ‘Gran Lujo’ grand luxury property, with GL being the highest rating in Spain for a 5-star hotel, distinguishing it for going that extra mile when it comes to service.

In addition to a rooftop plunge pool and cocktail bar, Cavalta Boutique Hotel is home to a signature restaurant, Balbuena y Huertas, taking its name from the celebrated architect Ramón Balbuena y Huertas who designed the original building, with its façade of Triana brickwork and ceramic tiles panels, evocative of the area’s famous potteries and ceramic factories.

Warm welcome

Nearly 20 years ago, when I started writing hotel columns, I used to say one of the best indicators of the quality of a hotel stay was the initial welcome when you arrive…(and the quality of the coffee they serve at breakfast). If they get those two things right, then it means the hotel is focusing on the details. Well, applying those criteria to Cavalta Boutique Hotel, one can conclude that they well and truly deserve their 5-star GL status.

The team, led by GM Pablo Alcantarilla Delgado, is particularly polished and friendly. Laura welcomed us upon arrival, and we were offered valet parking (for an additional fee you can leave the car outside and be confident it will be parked securely during your stay, a real luxury in a historic city like Seville).

The coffee, by the way, through the hotel, including in the rooms is the deliciously velvety brand of Illy.

Triana district

Seville is one of my favourite cities, a destination that I have come to know well over the past 25 years since I first visited.  On this visit I left the familiarity of the old town, with its evocative narrow stone cobbled streets that lead to the cathedral, and instead crossed the water to Triana.

Renowned for its pottery and ceramics studios, Triana has always been the more down-to-earth district of Seville. Famous for its toreros and flamenco, the area has a myriad of authentic tapas bars, fascinating galleries and ceramic studios, and a truly authentic vibe, where you are staying in an area where locals actually live.

Here one finds the charming and elegant Cavalta Boutique Hotel in a landmark, 1920s building adorned with signature Triana artworks, on the intersection of the historic San Jacinto and Condes de Bustillo streets.

Accommodation

The 12 guest rooms are distributed over 2 floors. Beyond the preserved and restored iconic brick façade, the building has been almost completely rebuilt. Some charming features like the arched roofs and the balcony windows, have been retained, but the rest is most definitely contemporary, with a minimalist design aesthetic.

Comfort was assured with the excellent soundproofing, plush king-sized beds, and the swish bathrooms in sultry dark tiles with indulgent amenities by Acqua di Palma.

The mini-bar with beers and light refreshments is complimentary, as is the gourmet Illy coffee and premium teas. The details are there, and although when we visited the hotel had only been open for about 6 weeks, it was running smoothly.

There is a daily turndown service too, in keeping with the hotel’s 5-star GL status.

Gastronomy

Dining is a highlight of a stay at Cavalta Boutique Hotel, with its Balbuena y Huertas restaurant, featured in the Michelin guide.

Begin your memorable evening at the cocktail bar that’s a meeting place for hotel guests as well as a dynamic after work crowd. The main dining area features a stunning glass wine cellar, an architectural feature that brings together the worlds of wine and gastronomy.

Richly veined marble tables are paired with velvet seating. There is also an additional seating area for groups or more intimate dining. The restaurant takes the entire ground floor of the Cavalta Boutique Hotel and is a vibrant space open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, after work, signature cocktails and dinner.

Chef José Luis Pastrana brings a youthful creativity to the restaurant. He champions local and seasonal menus. Just as the building is iconic of Triana, so is the restaurant, offering accessibly priced gastronomy that focuses on produce from Andalucia, from the foraged ingredients, organic vegetables, game, locally sourced meat, seafood, and fish from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, as well as rice dishes.
