During the Vietnam War, Cam Ranh Bay in the Khanh Hoa Province was used as a military base by both the United States and South Vietnam, thanks to its strategic location. It later served as a major Soviet naval base during the Cold War. More recently it’s arisen as a beach resort with its temples, markets and traditional Vietnamese villages also charming tourists. The dry season (January to August) is the most popular time to visit, as the weather is sunny and pleasant, conducive to watersports and a little island hopping.
