Salt and Seaspray

The hotel’s name – one which appears in Homer’s works of literature Odyssey and Heliad –loosely translates as the ‘salt of the joy of life’ and ‘seaspray’. Staying here is indeed a joy and the sea serves as an ever-present backdrop. Greek national heritage and culture is woven into the brand’s philosophy and hospitality. Whether you’re relaxing, dining, drinking, or preparing to sleep here, the tranquil Aegean Sea remains a beautiful focal point.

The hotel is found in the far south of the island, slightly to the west; Psarou beach lies below, a ten-minute stroll down to its palm-flanked golden sands. The building’s stylish, natural-looking exterior showcases local Cycladic architecture, crafted using slabs of indigenous stone. Sleek wooden decks are furnished with comfy light beige day beds and minimal white dining sets, all pointing toward the coast.

Refined Accommodation

Alissachni’s interiors have also been designed to blend into the setting, making use of natural, neutral hues, light wooden furnishings, polished concrete, simple ambient lighting, and crisp cream-coloured bedding with soft throws. There’s a gentle Scandi influence to the lines and an airy, open layout. While each of the small number of suites has very slightly different features, there’s a definite cohesion to the accommodation.

Private verandahs with a secluded feel, sea views, complimentary toiletries and coffee machines come as standard, with some apartments including a private plunge pool, exterior day beds, a hot tub and a sofa bed. Candles, flowers, balloons, incense, rose petals, essential oils and a bottle of Moet on ice, can all be added for a special surprise touch on arrival. As such, it makes for a magical honeymoon destination.

Dining Under The Stars

The culinary offer at Alissachni blends Greek and Mediterranean flavours and cooking techniques, using the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Tables are available on the edge of the terrace closest to the sea (perfect for a romantic dinner a Deux), as well as further inside, closer to the bar (ideal for those seeking a cosy, vibrant ambience). The bar area provides a chic spot to watch the sun go down and sip under the stars. Guests can order elaborate cocktails, as well as a wide variety of spirits and wines, alongside cheese platters and cold cuts. Those wishing to dine out will find several restaurants and tavernas within a two-mile radius of Alissachni.

In-Suite Services

Guests can book an in-suite pamper session, with massages (using products from Les Bains de Marrakesh) offered in the privacy of your own space, overlooking the sea. Hair appointments, make-up services, manis and pedis are all on offer too. Those wishing to stay active can request a one-to-one training session in the fitness area, pilates or yoga instruction, or may opt to work out alone at the outdoor gym (with a view, of course). Personal training is also available in your pool and the hotel pool — with temperatures averaging around 29 degrees celsius in July (the hottest month), this may be the coolest way to keep fit! Air conditioning, satellite TV, a kettle, WiFi and bathrobes are provided and pets are welcome to join you on your stay, food and water bowls are provided.

Mykonos Town

The hotel has a private driver for transfers to the town and beyond; Platis Gialos Beach and Pinky Beach are a short drive away, and the island’s two ports are well worth a visit. Or guests can book a hire car from the property’s 24 hour concierge — free parking is available outside the building. Benefitting from a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a traditional Greek island aesthetic, Mykonos’ whitewashed buildings typify the country’s coastal architectural style, evoking carefree holiday vibes. Alissachni is 5km away from the centre — far enough to provide a sense of serenity, yet close enough to access the many amenities.

Exploring and Unwinding

By day, guests can take a wander to the centre along narrow marble streets and appreciate the contrast of colourful doors, window frames and purple bougainvillaea trees against the bright white houses and hidden churches (do take your sunglasses!). And after dark, guests have the option to indulge in some of the town’s legendary nightlife. But it can be hard to leave the calming, luxe lifestyle experienced within the confines of Alissachni. And with staff on hand to meet your every need, you may not want to stray too far for too long.
